Shakespear & His Plays

Hamlet

Hamlet, a play we all know well. Gisela took a slightly different route to the original play and explored the ideas of the character Ophelia.

The under water theme inspired by the famous painting by John Everett Millais, created "Ophelia’s fish named Halmet”.

Each fish inspired by a different emotion or act in Shake-spears Play Hamlet

Looking at symbols from the play, the dagger, the seeing eye and the theatrical elements of tudor fashion and history.

Globe Poster Mock Up

The Shakespeare Globe, when illustrating the hand drawn ink illustrations Gisela imagined them to be viewed to a wider audience, so combining the classical illustration and the Globes branding styles she created a series of posters sharing the plays classic story and her own inky narrative.

(This was designed purely as a mock up for the project).

Illustration Design

Ophelia’s fish named hamlet, a new inky narrative by Gisela Gayleard.

Exploring surrealism art techniques, the plays narrative context and strong themes such as gothic tragedy and natural history of botany and aquatic beings.
